Vatican Hill... Hill of prophecy? (Massi, Descr. Mus. Anc. Sculpt. Vat. Pal., 1882, 2 ed.)

Type: a quote
Sub-type: a word definition/derivation
Relevance: prophecy
Text: "...thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess..." Revelation 2:20 "And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT... The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. ... And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth." Revelation 17:5,9,18

The Vatican Hill takes its name from the Latin word Vaticanus, a vaticiniis ferendis, in allusion to the oracles, or Vaticinia, which were anciently delivered here.
Massi, Hercules (Ercole), Compendious Description of the Museums of Ancient Sculpture, Greek and Roman, in the Vatican Palace, 2nd ed., enl. & impr., Rome: Printing Establishment Morini, 1882, p. 5.
